Dosha Test: Find Your Ayurvedic Constitution
21 questions about what you've been like since childhood and for most of your life. Right after the test you see your shares of vata, pitta and kapha and what they mean. A detailed breakdown with diet and routine recommendations comes free on WhatsApp or Telegram.
What is a dosha
In Ayurveda the three doshas, vata, pitta and kapha, describe how a person’s body and character work: movement, transformation and stability. Everyone has all three, in different proportions. Your inborn combination is called prakriti, your current state vikriti. More in The three doshas: vata, pitta, kapha and Prakriti and vikriti.
How the test works
- Questions based on the classical texts. Every answer option rests on a trait from the Charaka Samhita or Sushruta Samhita and a second independent source.
- Disputed traits left out. Traits that different sources assign to different doshas, such as a quick temper or favorite tastes, are not included.
- Options shuffled and unlabelled. That way your answers are less likely to drift towards the dosha you expect.
- Results as shares and confidence. If you pick “can’t choose” often or the shares are close, the test tells you so.
- Constitution and current state kept apart. The optional block about recent weeks is not mixed into your prakriti shares.
What next
Your test result is a starting point for getting to know your constitution better. How to eat for your dosha is covered in The Ayurvedic diet, how to structure your day in Dinacharya. And if you’d like to go through an Ayurvedic program under a doctor’s care, see panchakarma in Kerala.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find out my dosha?
Most accurately from an Ayurvedic doctor, who reads your pulse, examines you and asks questions. An online test gives you a pointer: it gathers the traits the classical texts link to each dosha and shows which ones are most pronounced in you.
How is this test different from others?
Every answer option is tied to a trait from the Charaka Samhita or Sushruta Samhita and confirmed by a second source. Disputed traits, which different sources assign to different doshas, are left out. The result is shown as shares with a confidence rating, and a separate block assesses your current state.
Can I use the test to treat myself or choose herbs?
No. The test describes tendencies, not health. Herbs, treatments and diet for any illness are prescribed by a doctor after an examination.
Why might my result change if I retake the test?
The percentages usually repeat well, the type label less so: if two doshas are close, a small difference in answers can tip the result from one type to another. That's why we show shares and confidence, not just a label.
Are my answers stored?
Your answers stay in your browser only. If you'd like a detailed breakdown, a short answer code is sent to the messenger, with no name or other personal data.
